The Zebra that Almost Wasn’t

I promised the polar bear a friend.

A zebra was the obvious choice.

(I only had white felt, ok? Let’s not dwell on the fact that I could have made a penguin just as easily…)

I’m pleased to report that they are quite happy together.

I say that the zebra almost wasn’t because there was a span of a couple days when he looked more like a white horse with horrific facial tattoos than he did a zebra…I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t look like that anymore.

My favorite part?

His hairdo! It’s fuzzy.

I did not know this before I did this project, but that’s actually called velvet stitch. Quite easy one you get the hang of it, although taking scissors to your work is a bit terrifying.

No pattern on this one – I used a photo of a zebra as a reference to cut the basic shape, then added stripes using satin stitch wherever I thought there should be stripes.

And yes OF COURSE I have to make more of these! They’re addictive!

My apartment is going to be overrun with a menagerie of 4″ embroidery hoops. I’m ok with that.

Thank you! Yes, it’s not all that large. Took foreverrr for such a small piece, but I think it was worth it!
